Interview
I recently participated in the interview process for Automattic and, unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. While the team was professional and responsive initially, my code test was ultimately rejected for a issue that cannot be considered as part of evaluation.
It felt as though they were searching for a reason to reject, rather than genuinely evaluating my overall performance. This approach not only undermines the effort candidates put in but also suggests a lack of fairness and consistency in the evaluation process.
The entire experience left me feeling frustrated and undervalued, particularly given the time and effort I invested. I strongly encourage the company to improve their process by ensuring clear, consistent evaluation criteria and fair consideration of candidates' work.
I applied online. I interviewed at Automattic in Oct 2021
Interview
In Oct 2021 I applied , after 2 weeks recruiter contacted me, they added me to a slack channel and assigned me to work on some test task on a github project, and assigned a supervisor. After submitting my first task, the first supervisor gave direct positive feedback about my code, and accepted me to move to next test, In the second test you work with them as part time for max 40 hours ( 25 USD / hour fixed price ) , you can divide that into several weeks, you should report weekly or every 8 hours of work. For this stage, I felt like the supervisor was not helpful, and like if he was just trying to find an excuse to reject me, Even though I don't have previous experience in wordpress ( they didn't ask for that ) I was able to get myself familiar quickly and built a solution for the assigned problem. even without enough hints form subservisor, but then subservisor claimed that I was not communicating enough about my idea or my approach, where as I never tried to go in any direction without writing it to get feedback, and there was no feedback in many cases, not even a thumbs up / down.
