Pros

nothing? Fine... Perhaps the fake impression that they are a cool company. And... Getting current employees to leave good reviews of the firm and make everything look rosy.

Cons

- Terribly rude CEO and management. - Shady and high risk business decisions made. If you are interviewing for compliance role, it is best you walk away now. The turnover for compliance team is crazy and if you are smart enough, you will know why. - Stop managing people by fear. Stop making people feel stupid by screaming at them and treating them like slaves. Then again, if you are white, probably life won't be as bad. - Stop hiring a bunch of no experience and knows nothing about fintech strategy people to determine the future of the company. What is the point of hiring someone with consulting background with no relevant experience. - if you are reading this as a interview candidate, my one and only suggestion to you is Don't Join. There's just too many cons.. don't look at the 5 star reviews cause they are Mostly fake. Look at the 1 or 2 stars. Sincere advice and for your own good.

Pros

- Good to see so many negative examples in people management so I can learn what not to do in the future. - We have a fantastic culture in Airwallex. A winning Chinese culture in which people are expected to overdeliver/overwork with unfair compensation. - Fintech is a good niche to get your feet into.

Cons

- No employee retention. Smart and ambitious colleagues are leaving one by one. - No employee benefits and bonuses. The only benefit is health insurance. - No career growth as leveling is ambiguous. - Inexperienced managers who are egoistic and only know how to curry favors from the top. They don't really listen to feedback from employees/customers. - No DEI. The underlying rule is to hire ex-consultants and inexperienced people who have a "good" background. Coming from a good school doesn't mean they're smart or competent in the job.

Pros

Aggressively growing organization, very good opportunities to touch many parts of the business regardless of your role.

Cons

The business has grown on the back of massive fundraising + the opportunities in China which have been well-captured but it has reached an inflection point. To scale, to capture and grow talent and to list successfully - all of these are challenges that are the biggest for the business & the current leadership team are not fit to address. A good way to summarize the sentiment above is that majority of the senior leaders/managers would not qualify or be successful in similar roles in other fast-growing companies. As such, these senior individuals are neither capable of building teams and functions to deliver on their goals - you'll see that high turnover is a recurring theme because Airwallex turns strong performers into questionable hires. To my original point (lipstick on a pig), the senior management team are aggressively hiring expensive and renowned talent from Tier 1 tech organizations, MBB consulting and very shiny schools - to provide the credibility and sheen required to push the business into the next phase. But it is clear that based on the foundation the business is built on, no number of MBAs or FAANG hires can change Airwallex's DNA. Worth noting that it's the lipstick hires who are getting plenty of resourcing and visibility so if you'll be a lipstick hire - make the most of it. Be wary though, stay long enough and the lipstick will become part of the pig.
