Pros

- work life balance (only during non-peak months) - friendly and helpful leaders and colleagues - multicultural environment - challenging work (for those want to learn) - easy repetitive work (for those not willing to learn) - flexible lunch hours

Cons

- cost cutting (it's usual to axe teams here and transfer those teams to third world countries with lower wages) - uncertain future. Company's main business lines such as telco and payment are now being challenged by big boys like Google, Apple and Samsung. - Unrealistic business goals which can never be achieved most of the years - lack of transparency from top management - business side does not really understand how engineering side works - hard for career progression - lower pay compared to the market - employees from certain countries trying to form their own clusters in some teams - used to be a good starting point for fresh graduates who are looking more for exposure than pay but current cost cutting environment may not be a good thing for people who want to learn and grow.

Pros

Security is very good business for the future. Gemalto heads to right way to go. However, this hardware company, have strong taste to against software culture. Even though they have scrum, however due to many unqualified old Engineers and project leaders, the software development skill is much much behind the market. For example, Git is popular, but they are using it with one branch like SVN, and very hard to push them forward.

Cons

1. Political company. Project Manager, team leader usually do not have professional software engineering sense and professional knowledge. So they like playing with good Engineers and let them leave the company. 2. Extremely lack of professional knowledge, and like arguing on basic common scenes stuff to show higher manager they are working, actually they waste time. And managers are not able to make correct discussion. 3. Do not respect technology, and pretending doing work. Product quality is very low. Always postpone to solve the critical issue. 4. Always try not learn new things. The old Engineers could not even programming for a line. They always say, algorithm is useless, I do not want to learn, just tell me what’s the conclusion. 5. No appreciation. Team leader always treat you like workhorse. They often change your project every one or Two months, no matter whether you have finished. Definitely, if something happens, it is always your problem. 6. Turn over rate is very very high. Many good Engineers join the company due to the security, and after two years, most of them left, they are very disappointed. So many dummy Engineers stay in the company and finally they changed the culture in Singapore R&D. 7. Talking is the most important than others. Many old Engineers talk a lot, but the code looks very messy. They extremely lack the knowledge of OOP, and even very basic modular design. So they extremely are not confident with their own products, and treat them as boom when do the maintenance. If you are a good software engineer, definitely gemalto Singapore is not right place for you. It will pull you down. If you are junior and want to be a good software engineer, gemalto Singapore is also not right place, because it will narrow your view of the world and give you bad programming habit. If you are waiting for retirement, gemalto Singapore is a good place. Easy talk and easy to fool manager.
