Pros

Working with some of the best athletic products in the business, across multiple sports lines and see next-generation technology being applied to sporting goods.

Cons

A company that cannot figure out innovation and has given up its leadership status to more nimble and savvy competitors. Wilson does NOT lead in any categories whereas they used to be a predominant force in tennis, golf, baseball and football. They have been consistently eclipsed by Nike, Reebok, Callaway and have even taken a back seat to "older" companies like Rawlings and Riddell. Incompetent management has led to 20 years of neglect.

Going downhill - especially morale

Pros

Fun products, really great co-workers, flexible schedule.

Cons

Upper management is disorganized. It seems like the company takes a new direction every few years. Morale was OK in the past, but once the move to downtown was announced, morale has been terribly low and management doesn't seem to care. Anyone living outside of Chicago (most employees) is looking at spending an additional 2 hours of travel each day. A lot of good people are seriously looking or planning on looking to leave soon. My rating of Work/Life Balance will drop from 5 stars after the move. Many recent layoffs and quite a few good people have quit recently.

Lack of Cultural Diversity with No Intentions on Changing!

Pros

Good benefits, great employee discounts, able to work from home, good company events.

Cons

Wilson has a serious problem with hiring and maintaining minorities. I literally can count on my hands how many minorities work at the corporate office especially African Americans. It’s sad to see that we highly promote Serena (Racquet Sports) to represent our brand but there is little to no representation of her culture here at HQ. Lastly, there are very few minorities who holds the title of Manger or above. The corporate culture is very divided. Depending on what department you work in you get a different experience whether good or bad. Working hands on with blue collar workers it is often expressed to me that they feel like step children compared to our corporate office in terms of transparency. The HR dept. is like a service department without human connection. HR as a whole are to themselves. How can you work in HR but dislike both interacting and engaging with employees? The one HR person most employees loved and connected with left because they were devalued and overlooked. Oh did I mention that the person was one of 5 African Americans out of 300 employees who works at HQ. Sad! Leadership, well let’s just say as long as Wilson has the same people in place that’s been there for 20-30 years, it will stay the same. There are very few women on the Leadership team. We currently have some of the most intelligent and innovative women at Wilson that can take the company to the next level. But again, there is no push for change. The lack of diversity and inclusion is a disgrace at Wilson Sporting Goods and has been for over 100 years. Nothing has changed. Hopefully with new ownership on our tails change will come and Wilson will one day be in the category of “best places to work”.
