      Toxic work culture & Hopeless HR (Singapore)

      Can't think of anything positive.

      Cons

      Not sure why they have an HR business partner. Our HR BP was completely useless. If you want to move to a different department/group within the company there is no clearly defined process. When asked for assistance, the only thing the HR BP could do was point me to online courses. If you apply for jobs on the company portal you wont get any response and you have to beg to get a feedback from the HR. They are planning to introduce an AI programme which will help employees advance their careers .Hopefully AI can replace the useless HR department.

      Pros

      Smart people to work with, people who are relatively exposed and open to ideas. Good focus on solving problems and less on laying blame. New ideas actually get an audience and the resources to prototype the project, if approved. Most processes work and the focus is more on action and less on posturing.

      Cons

      The HR team is dominated by foreigners who openly declare that locals have no talent and that they have to import foreigners (usually their friends) to save us locals from ourselves. They change their tune when government officials visit and they position the few locals as the face of the company. Some bad habits carried over from the banking industry - hiring managers insisting on hiring friends (this goes up to the highest levels) and they usually get their way.

      Pros

      Salary can be above market average (inconsistent across functions), recently improved insurance scheme is above market standards. Work life balance varies between teams.

      Cons

      Full of politics, less focused on work ethics. Poor planning for a company of this size. Also, you can clearly identify one particular nationality that fills up supervisory/management roles, who continuously bring in their fellow country men even in situations where there's clear lack of skill ability OR no specific need for that language or culture.
